Social Studies
We have been learning about the democratic government of ancient Athens. We learned about the class structure of Athenian society and the Rights, Responsibilities and Requirements of each group. If you have not completed the "RRR" assignment please complete that as soon as possible. We then applied what we knew about these classes by completing a role-playing activity and creating a group mosaic.
We also used the textbook to learn about the Assembly, Council of 500 and Courts. We highlighted important information and used reading strategies to answer multiple-choice questions.
Science
We are getting close to wrapping up our unit on evidence and investigation. We have learned about using eyewitness statements, shoe prints, fingerprints, tire tracks, handwriting samples, and ink (chromatography) to make observations and inferences. Next week we will use microscopes to look at hair samples. We will then review and will likely be having a unit test at the end of next week. A study guide is found below.
Math
We have continued learning about the area, perimeter, and volume of rectangles, triangles and rectangular prisms. The "Friday 5" this week focused on finding area of triangles. We will continue to review and have a check-in next week before moving on to data analysis, graphing and statistics.
LA
We have been researching myths and legends from different cultures. A few weeks ago we had an indigenous storyteller who shared the story of Nappy and the Rock. We have practiced summarizing and retelling stories using pictures, point-form notes and written summaries.
As part of this work, we researched Greek mythology and created a Greek myth trading card. You should share the digital work with your parents.
We have been reading the novel "Maniac Magee". We have been completing summary and comprehension questions related to the novels. Each student is completing a second illustration showing important events from the novel. We are creating a visual story wall that will retell the entire story using illustrations.
