What we have been working on

In science, we have been learning about the four forces of flight. We completed a Flight research project where we chose a flying machine or animal and researched how it used lift, drag, thrust to overcome gravity and stay in the air.  We also have been learning about the  Parts of an airplane and how they control yaw, pitch and roll.

In Math we have been learning how to plot points on a plane using ordered pairs. We then started to learn how to move these points and shapes around using transformations (translation, reflection and rotation.  We applied this knowledge to create a Transformation map. Students should have the map completed and the description of at least 2 translations and 2 reflections. We will review how to describe rotations next week. This map should be brought home and shared with parents over the weekend.

In Social, we have been learning about the Charter of Rights by looking at hypothetical stories. All of the stories can be found here: "You Decide: Charter Challenge Stories" Last week we looked at the stories for Ava Reindeer and Morley Moose. We looked at each story from different perspectives and applied our understanding the Charter to the story. We also have been learning about timelines. Students created a timeline of their life that contained at least 5 important events with illustrations. Next week we will research some interesting events throughout history to create a class timeline.

In Language Arts we have been learning about and writing newspaper articles. Students used information from Musk ox article to write a three-paragraph article. We used the following checklist and rubric to help us: article checklist and rubric. We also learned how to use quotation marks and listened to a comma quotation mark song.
