This week in 5/6

  Math  We have been reviewing our skills for fractions. We have reviewed 6 "I can statements" by modelling and practicing them in class. Students then create their own page showing these skills.  This page is our "Friday 5" this week and is due on Monday . The 6 "I can" statements for the page can be found here Language Arts and Social  We have been using textbooks and resources to work on our Regions of Canada Paragraph . We should have the web complete which we will be using to fill out our "Hamburger Paragraph" graphic organizer and make a good copy of our paragraphs next week.  Science  We are starting our unit on Weather and the Properties of air . We did a few short experiments using the Scientific Method . We also introduced weather and the atmosphere by watching Bill Nye- Atmosphere and doing a few hands-on activities where we acted like air molecules. 

This week in 5/6

Our schedule has been very different this week as we did much work to put on the school's Remembrance Day Ceremony.  Thank you to the parents who were able to attend! We finished the "The Giver". Next week we will complete several reflection activities and a final project for the book.  We also completed an activity using the book  Erika's Story and made connections between the story and Remembrance Day. We have been working on sorting fractions from least to greatest and creating equivalent fractions. This week's Friday 5 focuses on these skills.  Next week we will wrap up our unit on Trees, Forests and Wetland Ecosystems. We will also continue working on our Regions of Canada Project . 

This week in 5/6

  Math  We have been continuing to work on representing fractions. We are learning how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions and order fractions. Next week we will plot fractions on number lines and learn how to find and use equivalent fractions in a variety of math problems. Social We are starting a Regions of Canada Project . Students will have a specific job and region that they will study using physical textbooks, online resources and videos. After using graphic organizers to gather information, students will write a paragraph. Language Arts We are close to finishing the novel "The Giver" . We will be completing a variety of activities relating to the book including the "Transform My Thinking" activity.  We will also be doing several activities relating to Remembrance Day. Our class will be taking a leadership role in the Remembrance Day ceremony. More resources and information for this will be posted next week.  We are also finishing up our u...
