Looking back on the week Math We continued our work on number sense. We started learning about integers (positive and negative numbers) by brainstorming times that we may see negative numbers in the world. We then plotted integers on a number line so we could order and compare integers. We also introduced decimals by looking at parts of numbers as low as thousandths. We then practiced using the strategies we developed to represent numbers to show numbers with decimals in different ways.  We practiced these skills by completing This week's Friday 5 . This should have been completed, marked and corrected by your student. They should have brought this home and shared it with you. We then had a quick quiz on Friday that was the exact same style of questions from Friday 5 but with different numbers. This quiz will be marked and students should be bringing it home next week.  Social   Before we dive deeper into the regions and government of Canada, we are learning about ...
LA We practiced using the computers to write a personal reflection paragraph about Orange Shirt Day. We used the notes we used last week to write the paragraph.   We continued to read up to the end of chapter 8 for "The Giver". For our home journal today we wrote a paragraph describing Jonas, who is the main character of the book.  This was done on the computer and students should share the work in their Google Drive with their parents.  We also used "Story Mountain Graphic" organizer to explore the parts of stories. We will be filling out the Graphic organizer for the Pixar short films. We will also be filling it out for a number of other stories that the class knows such as Disney movies and fairy tales. Math   We will be using a calculator to practice completing operations with large numbers. We discussed clues in a word problem that help us know when to add, subtract, multiply or divide. We practiced using estimation to check if our answers were reasonable. ...
